Upon arrival at our clinic for your first massage therapy appointment, our receptionist will ask you to complete a health history form. You should allow 5-10 minutes for this. The form will be reviewed by our massage therapist to help her better understand your current state of health and work with you to develop goals of therapy.
Your therapist will then greet you and take you into one of our relaxing treatment rooms to discuss your health history. He or she will also perform an assessment that will allow them to create a safe treatment plan customized to your specific needs. Your therapist will then leave the room while you get undressed. Some clients prefer to completely disrobe, while others prefer to leave on their undergarments.
Once you are on the massage table, you will completely cover yourself with a crisp, clean top sheet and cozy blanket. Your therapist will knock on the door to be sure you are ready before they re-enter.
During your treatment, your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on to ensure your modesty is respected. He or she will also ask you from time to time if the pressure is okay. Please be sure to communicate with your therapist about pressure - it's your massage.
Once your massage is complete, your therapist will leave the room for you to get dressed. The therapist will meet you at the front desk where they will give you some important tips for post treatment home care as well as to discuss the next scheduled visit.
Sheila Graham, RMT, has been providing massage therapy care in the Stouffville area since 1994. Sheila utilizes the knowledge and experience gained over her long career to promote healing and encourage positive living by helping others manage their pain and stress.
In addition to Classical (Swedish) massage, Sheila offers Manual Lymphatic Drainage, myofascial (deep) tissue release and craniosacral therapy. She has learned a lot about injury management while recovering from her own misadventures in hockey, martial arts and gardening.
Whether it’s for recovery from an injury or to simply relax, a personalized massage therapy session is created after discussing the individual’s goals, areas of concern and level of comfort. Sheila can deliver deep pressure or use a lighter touch as needed. Massage can be performed over clothes but is more effective when applied directly to the person’s skin. Sheila also offers a beneficial massage therapy treatment specifically for hands and feet for those who prefer it.
