Prenatal and Postnatal Care

Chiropractic care during pregnancy

Dr. Lynch is a mother of four and has a special interest in caring for women to minimize their discomfort in their prenatal and postnatal time. She uses gentle, low force treatments to relieve the pain associated with pregnancy or postpartum strain. The techniques are modified to avoid unneeded pressure on the abdomen and minimize strain on both the mom and her growing baby.

Benefits of Chiropractic care during pregnancy may include:
  • reduced back, hip and pelvic pain
  • minimizing the postural strain of a growing belly
  • increased space in the pelvis facilitating the baby's growth
  • optimizing the positioning of the pelvic joints to maximize space for the birthing canal
  • optimizing pelvic motion to allow the baby to move into the optimal head down vertex position
  • greater ease and comfort during pregnancy, labour and birth, reducing the need for pain relief drugs

The Webster Technique

Dr. Lynch is trained in prenatal and pediatric care, including the Webster Technique. The Webster Technique, discovered by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), is a specific chiropractic adjustment for pregnant mothers. It is a chiropractic technique designed to relieve the causes of intrauterine constraint, allowing the baby to turn into a head down, vertex position. The technique aligns the pelvis and releases any tension in the ligaments of the uterus, thus relaxing the uterus. The relaxed uterus makes it easier for a breech baby to turn naturally. The Chiropractor does not physically move the baby, but the gentle adjustments open up the space in the pelvis, allowing the baby enough room to move into the proper position. If the baby is already in the correct head-down position, the technique helps maintain that ideal position. The Webster Technique is a very safe and gentle way to help promote a natural birth experience.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine can offer guidance and treatments above and beyond what is offered by your prenatal health care team and can contribute to a happy and healthy pregnancy for both mother and child. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) collaboratively with midwives and obstetricians. Your Naturopathic Doctor is able to offer various appropriate and complementary treatments to a pregnant woman such as herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition and counseling. Naturopathic Medicine can help treat the symptoms of pregnancy and is very beneficial in situations that require intervention such as IVF, breech presentation, post-dates induction, and breastfeeding concerns.

Fertility Acupuncture

The Stouffville Natural Health Clinic is dedicated to helping you achieve a healthy pregnancy. Our practitioners have provided naturopathic fertility and prenatal care for hundreds of couples and individuals trying to achieve a healthy pregnancy. We offer acupuncture for both men and women who simply want to enhance their natural fertility, and for those struggling with sub or infertility. Acupuncture is an evidence based therapy that has been shown to support fertility alone and/or improve pregnancy rates when used in combination with Western fertility treatments such as IVF, IUI, ICSI and other therapies.

Studies have found that acupuncture may improve fertility rates by:
  • Increasing pelvic blood flow to the uterus and ovaries
  • Reducing stress related hormones
  • Increasing nourishment to the uterine lining
  • Reducing uterine contractions
  • Improving response to hormonal stimulation
  • Promoting relaxation
