What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a centuries old treatment that has modern science and evidence to support its success. A typical acupuncture treatment involves inserting tiny needles into the body at precise points to relieve pain and restore function. Sometimes the needles are stimulated manually or with electricity.

Acupuncture needles are sterile, very thin, single-use needles. They are gently inserted at designated acupuncture points on specific acupuncture channels to assist the natural movement and flow of energy in the body. The acupuncture channels themselves are an invisible intranet of energy information networking throughout the entire body. Free moving energy that circulates easily through all bodily organs and tissues supports a sense of wholeness and well-being.

The purpose of acupuncture is to promote the circulation of energy throughout the acupuncture channel system. Some of the benefits of acupuncture include pain relief, stress reduction, regulation of digestion, relaxation of muscle tension, and improved sleep.

Sensations during treatment range from little or no sensation, to a slight ache or dullness, and may include a warm or cool sensation of energy movement flowing along a channel. A sense of relaxation is very common.

At the Stouffville Natural Health Clinic we specialize our acupuncture treatments to our training focus, for example our Chiropractor typically deals with musculoskeletal and nerve conditions and while our Naturopathic Doctors use acupuncture to restore balance and optimize wellness which is ideal for treating hormonal imbalances, digestive disturbances, sleep issues, mood imbalances and fertility concerns.
